The Pro Lathe Gage by Edge Technology is used to set lathe tools on the spindle axis for optimum cutting conditions. Poorly set cutting tools will leave a "NUB" at the center of the workpiece after performing a facing cut. Our Pro Lathe gage can be used to set tools on the spindle axis and eliminate this issue. The hands free design allows you to use both hands to adjust the height of the tool holder. The recess in the body profile provides enough clearance to set boring bars. The Pro Lathe Gage features an adjustable level housing allowing  you to correctly set tools even if your lathe is not perfectly leveled.

    I'm always looking for shortcut and accuracy increasing abilities for setting my tool height on my lathe. I am very familiar with Edge products and respect their high quality, in combination with their overall functions. I have other tooling that they make and am very pleased with the end accuracy result when using for set ups. However the reason for only 4 stars on this particular item it that it will not set tools at all angles or in certain other positions of tool post location. If you have to move the tool around to set it, this tool is of no importance to me a a standard go to. I made a tool that is magnetic and attaches to the lathe ways for setting in nearly any position, or use the old center in chuck point method more than this tool. I am not unappreciative of this tool, for it has other uses also; but wish it was more compact in size and would reach tooling at more setting locations. The tool is clubby and overdone for mini lathe in my opinion and more useful for intermediate to full size lathes.

    I recently purchased the tool and had a chance to handle it. The bar itself is nice and smooth. The aluminum piece is nicely machined with no sharp edges. The ball bearings have no slop in it or as its mounted on the bar. The level is adjustable but tight and will hold firm when you choose to adjust it. I havent actually used the tool. I need to level my lathe first. Just no time yet. The reason I gave this 4 stars is because it should come with a container to protect it. I know I can find something but a specific container would be nice.

    Works great with a 3 jaw chuck. Does not with my 4 jaw church without a bushing. Pin diameter too small.

    It's pretty accurate. I use this everytime I work on the lathe at work to make sure every turn and face I do comes out perfect. One of the best investment I made.
